October is hard to beat: the Laurel Highlands and the Allegheny ridges around Rocky Gap colour up, and the cities cool down. Midsummer along the Potomac and in Philadelphia is muggy, mountain roads can ice over between December and March, and the southern Indiana hills are at their greenest in May and June. Expect higher nightly prices on holiday weekends and whenever a big touring act is booked.

Is a car needed, or will a transfer do?

Look at the arrival line in each row. National Harbor, South Philadelphia, King of Prussia and Bethlehem sit within a short taxi of their airports. Caesars Southern Indiana is close to Louisville's airport. Nemacolin, Rocky Gap, Danville, Bristol and French Lick really want a hire car.
