Who controls your data

Information valenks receives

From your device: IP address; a rough location inferred from that address at city level or coarser; the user agent string; browser and screen type; and which valenks pages loaded.
From messages you send: the name, email, topic and text in any email you deliver to the desk.
From the consent switches: the positions you chose, held in local storage on your device.

Why valenks processes it, and on what basis

Serving pages and blocking misuse, because valenks has a legitimate interest in a working site.
Analytics that show which hotel rows readers open, only with consent.
Marketing measurement that lets a referral partner credit valenks for a booking, only with consent.
Writing back to you, either at your request or under valenks' legitimate interest.

Our hosting and analytics vendors handle device data on valenks' instructions. With the advertising switch on, referral and affiliate networks get click identifiers so they can tie a later reservation to valenks. Once you land on a hotel's site, that hotel's own privacy rules take over. valenks never sells the messages readers send.

Several valenks vendors sit outside Europe, mainly in the United States; any transfer needing a legal safeguard relies on contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.

How long valenks keeps things

Raw server logs: purged within 90 days. Aggregated analytics: deleted by month 26. Correspondence: kept while a thread is live and for up to two further years. Consent switches: 12 months, after which valenks asks again.

If those laws cover you, you can see the data valenks holds on you, have it corrected or erased, receive it in a portable format, restrict it or object, and withdraw consent at any moment, which leaves earlier lawful processing untouched. A complaint can also be filed with the supervisory authority in your own country.

CCPA and CPRA rights

Under Californian law, residents can learn what personal information valenks keeps about them, by category and item, request fixes or erasure, narrow how sensitive details are used, and refuse the sale or sharing of their data for cross-context behavioural advertising. On valenks, a browser's GPC signal is honoured as that refusal and keeps advertising cookies switched off. Nobody is treated worse for using these rights.

Minors

valenks addresses grown-up travellers only. Nobody younger than 18 should write to valenks with personal details; anything a minor does send is erased once we notice or are told.
